Success in helping students begins with "connecting" in a meaningful way. These "connections" are formed through our ability to understand generational experiences and preferences in communication. Additionally, a better understanding of ourselves helps us connect with students. This course explores how to work better together through common collaborative principles and improving teamwork.


Module 1: Understanding the Generations

  • Identify the four generations.

  • Improve connections with students.
  • Apply various generational styles to common interactions.

Module 2: Generational Communication Preferences

  • Examine preferred communication styles of the generations.
  • Identify tips for improving communication with the generations.
  • Apply specific communication styles for various scenarios.

Module 3: Principles of Effective Collaboration

  • Understand importance of collaboration.
  • Establish common ground for effective collaboration.
  • Identify the 5 principles of collaboration.
  • Apply collaboration principles to common situations.

Module 4: Improving Teamwork

  • Understand the importance of clearly understood goals and expectations.
  • Learn what types of communication affect performance.
  • Uncover how to share credit for team accomplishments.
  • Identify the four areas of group trust.
  • Understand team communication roles.
